Week 1 - July 10th
This week, I earned 16 points. I went on a bike ride with my friend Jessica—we had a pretty good time riding around our neighborhood. I hadn’t ridden my bike in so long, so I had to do some repairs/maintenance on it before we rode. I also did 6 more entries in my journal this week. I focused on just kind of writing my feelings and thoughts about the section I’m reading in my novel choice, The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne and her family have been peeling potatoes non-stop, and they’re down food rations! I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like to be stuck in the Annex for so long. My parents and I then watched Singin’ in the Rain for movie night, which was this cute musical from the 1950’s.
It’s about silent movie actors coping with the transition to sound movies, or “talkies” in Hollywood. I really liked all of the dancing—I wish I could tap-dance as well as Gene Kelly! I then helped cook dinner three times and completed the Career Webquest. It said I would make a good Social Worker, Biologist, or Freelance Interior Designer, among others. I was surprised because I never gave these careers any thought—I hadn’t even heard of some of them! Finally, I did some sidewalk chalk drawings with my little brother on Friday. We just drew flowers (because they were easy) but then we decided to go around the neighborhood and write motivational quotes and sayings on the sidewalk. Hopefully they’ll brighten someone’s day!
